Idle No More action historic in Indian Country

You have to look at history to understand what is happening in Indian Country. In the 1870s, the federal government signed treaties with the First Nations on the plains and the reserve system began. The aim was to remake the First Nations as farm workers and domestics. The older generations were written off, and their children were placed in boarding schools with the intention of taking the Indian out of them. At least that was the theory.
